With the DB2605-AC, DROPBEATS offers a compact solution for equipping AC wallboxes with Power Line Communication (PLC) to meet the requirements of ISO 15118-20. The background is the European regulatory framework under the Alternative Fuels Infrastructure Regulation (AFIR), which requires newly installed and refurbished AC and DC charging stations – both public and private – to support ISO 15118-20:2022 from January 1, 2027.

Since January 2026, public AC chargers have been expected to support ISO 15118-2:2016. From January 2027, the requirements will go further: newly installed or refurbished AC and DC chargers must support ISO 15118-20:2022. This development therefore affects not only public charging infrastructure, but also private wallboxes.
PLC Communication for Existing Wallbox Designs
The DB2605-AC was specifically developed for communication between electric vehicles and charging stations according to ISO 15118-20 and can be integrated into existing or new AC wallbox designs. The communication controller enables functions such as Plug & Charge, smart charging, and, in the future, Vehicle-to-Grid (V2G).

Qualcomm Technology and Tested Software Stack
Based on current Qualcomm chipsets, the DB2605-AC integrates a tested software stack for ISO 15118-2 and ISO 15118-20. This enables communication with current electric vehicles and supports deployment across different charging infrastructure concepts. Firmware updates can also be delivered Over-the-Air (OTA).
