Charging

CODICO offers expertise in the field of Charging

Secure and Efficient Charging of Electric Vehicles

Electric vehicles (EV) and plug-in hybrid electric vehicles (PHEV), that are built for the European market, are generally equipped for both AC and DC charging.

AC and DC Charging: When charging with AC, the power conversion takes place on board. AC charging is slower than DC charging because the power levels are lower (only 22kW at max). Therefore, charging with AC is used for longer charging durations, such as charging overnight or while at work.

Ultra-Fast Charging: Whereas DC charging can be used for ultra-fast charging. This is achieved with high power levels of up to 350kW. The power conversion does not happen in the car itself, but in special charging stations. These are necessary to enable a quick refill, while on the go.

EU Regulation 2023/1804

High-level communication / ISO 15118 is mandatory and already established for DC charging. The new EU regulation 2023/1804 requires this also for AC charging from 1.1.2027 onwards, mainly for light- and heavy-duty electric vehicle chargers but this will be spread over the whole market.

Our Competence in Charging

While the goal is simple – charging the battery – there is a wide variety of components needed, to fulfil the task. CODICO is able to offer a large portfolio of common or customer-specific products, which comply with industry standards.

Communication between EV and charging infrastructure

Very important are Powerline Communication modules as these establish the connection between Electric Vehicle (EV) and Charging Station (EVSE) required in ISO 15118. CODICO offers different extended solutions for that, either the pure modem or System on Moduls (SoM) supporting the application directly with an integrated software stack.

Energy Conversion & Power Components

On request, we can help with developing suitable magnetic components or provide you with an overview over our wide range of Film Capacitors for filtering, PFC and LLC circuits. Furthermore, we are capable of providing scale-iDrivers, shunt resistors, leakage current sensors and more, to meet all your requirements.

Connection Solutions in the Charging Area

In the Charging Area, the following connection & ventilation solutions are available:

  • Type-2 charging sockets compliant with IEC 62196-2: Secure and assembled solutions for electrical connections between the charging station and vehicle, featuring terminal blocks on one end and cable glands on the device side.
  • fixed EV charging cables: Custom-configured PCB contacts for high-power transmission in customized "cost-down" designs.
  • Direct PCB contacts: Fast, tool-free, and smooth wire connections through lever-type terminal blocks.
  • Flexible internal wiring and board-to-board connection solutions: A wide range of solutions for various PCB layouts, including floating options and SMT jumper cables.
  • Lever-type terminal blocks: Fast, tool-free, and smooth wire connections.
  • AC and DC fans: Effective temperature management in compact housings.
