Optoelectronics
What is Optoelectronics?
Optoelectronics is a technology that combines the physics of light in the visible, the infrared or ultraviolet spectral range with electricity. Optoelectronics converts electrical signals into photon signals and back again.
Any device that operates as an electrical-to-optical or optical-to-electrical converter belongs to the group of optoelectronic devices. These include electrically powered light sources such as laser diodes and LEDs, components for converting light into electrical current such as solar and photovoltaic cells and devices that can electronically control the propagation of light.
