Mini-OLED Display for Near-Eye Applications by WISECHIP
Display Directly in Front of One’s Own Eye
WISECHIP, a leading developer and manufacturer of passive matrix OLED displays, is known for its innovation. OLED technology enables extremely compact structures, making it ideal for displays positioned directly in front of the user's eye. Based on this, the manufacturer has developed a series of very small displays.
Datenblatt herunterladenHigh Resolution for Sharp Images
The smallest display in this series measures only 0.19 inches diagonally and offers a resolution of 128x96 pixels, resulting in an impressive pixel density of 850ppi (pixels per inch). This high resolution is crucial for providing a clear and sharp image even when viewed up close. The active area measures only 2.869x3.829mm, with each pixel being just 0.019x0.019mm in size. Weighing only 0.28g, the display is incredibly compact and lightweight, making it ideal for use directly in front of the eye.
The brightness of 360cd/m² ensures excellent readability even in direct sunlight. The OLED display also offers a contrast ratio of over 10,000:1, delivering deep blacks—an impressive quality that speaks for itself.
To minimise wiring, the display uses a space-saving I²C interface for control. Other advantages include an extremely fast response time of less than 10µs and low power consumption.

Application Example
The display is currently used in a goggle-mounted device that visualises biometric data as well as speed and distance, offering a simple way to provide information during sports activities such as swimming or cycling. It also performs well as a GPS rangefinder for golfers. Additionally, it can be integrated as an enhancement to a wayfinding system, guiding the user via the display.
In addition to the versions available today, further improvements are actively being developed. The focus is on achieving higher resolution and increased pixel density, along with enhanced brightness.
