Traffic Management & Control
Let the Traffic Flow
Traffic management & control systems are primarily used to improve the flow of traffic and safety. An example of that is the European Rail Traffic Management System (ERTMS), installed at important parts of the Trans-European Rail Network.
The ERTMS essentially consists of the following two components:
- The Global System for Mobile Communications - Rail (GSM-R)
- The European Train Control System (ETCS)
European Rail Traffic Management System
GSM-R is a system for voice and data communication between vehicles, mobile terminals, and stationary equipment. GSM-R distinguishes itself from conventional GSM networks through railway-specific extensions, mostly related to safety. Today, more extended versions are already going into operation (GPRS, EDGE, LTE-R).
ETCS is a system designed for trackside installations, allowing the exchange of information with signalboxes (train control, train protection, and signalling). This is to prevent trains from entering already occupied sections throughout Europe.
Our Competence in Traffic Management & Control
Thanks to LTE and smartphones, IT giants such as Apple and Google have long been able to fully exploit their strengths in the area of traffic congestion navigation by resorting to their huge databases. 5G will bring about an even greater leap forward in the development of traffic management & control systems, due to the integration of autonomously driven vehicles.
As a design-in distributor, we are happy to share our experience, and will discuss the different solution approaches for traffic managements systems with you. CODICO’s experts will gladly advise you on the selection of the appropriate positioning chips or modules, inductors, relays, capacitors and connectors.
