MP8699B: GaN MOSFET Half-Bridge Driver

The MP8699B from Monolithic Power Systems (MPS) is a dedicated half-bridge driver designed for driving GaN enhancement-mode MOSFETs. The device features separate PWM inputs (pulse-width modulation) for the high-side (HS) and low-side (LS), enabling independent and precise control of both switching nodes.

High Switching Speed and Precise Timing

The turn-on and turn-off speeds can be individually adjusted by adding impedance to separate gate loops. Combined with a very low propagation delay and excellent channel-to-channel matching, this ensures fast, reliable, and highly synchronized switching performance.

Efficient Operation with Innovative Bootstrap Technology

Thanks to MPS’ proprietary bootstrap technology, the driver operates from a single supply voltage of 4.5V to 5.5V while supporting DC bus voltages of up to 100V. An optimized charging scheme ensures that the bootstrap capacitor is only charged via the supply voltage VCC when the low-side switch is active (PWML = logic high).

Integrated Protection Mechanisms for High Reliability

An active clamp circuit ensures that the voltage across the bootstrap capacitor does not exceed 105% of VCC. This effectively protects the sensitive gate of the high-side GaN MOSFET from overvoltage and enhances overall system reliability.
