Power ICs and SMD Transformers for Flexible Power Supply
RECOM’s Galvanically Isolated DC/DC Power Supplies
With a new family of power ICs and SMD transformers, RECOM is entering the market for discrete, galvanically isolated DC/DC power supplies. The portfolio includes transformers compatible with flyback, push-pull, and full-bridge drivers in the 1W to 15W power range. These standard subminiature SMD transformers support the most common input and output voltage combinations and offer an isolation rating of up to 5000 VAC/min.
Module Solutions Offer Fast Integration and High Reliability
Complete DC/DC converter modules offer numerous advantages: they are pre-assembled, pre-tested, and pre-certified, making them ready to use immediately. In addition, they come with comprehensive specifications and performance diagrams. This allows designers to know in advance how the power supply will behave under different operating conditions. These benefits are complemented by a manufacturer’s warranty, ensuring high reliability.
Discrete Designs Enable Maximum Flexibility
In contrast, discrete power supply solutions enable highly flexible designs - especially for applications with limited space or unconventional layout requirements. They also offer advantages in manufacturing and logistics, as all components can be assembled using automated pick-and-place processes. In high-volume production in particular, discrete solutions can reduce overall costs further, as unit costs decrease with increasing production volumes. Evaluation Boards Available at Short Notice
Suitable evaluation boards with standard ICs and matched transformers can be delivered within 20 days, enabling a fast start in the development of custom DC/DC power supply solutions.
When is it Advisable to Use a Discrete DC/DC Power Supply Instead of a Pre-Built DC/DC Module?
Discrete DC/DC power supplies are particularly suitable for applications with specific layout requirements, limited space, or high-volume production. While ready-made DC/DC modules offer fast and easy integration, discrete solutions provide greater flexibility in design, component placement, and cost optimization. With RECOM’s new power ICs and SMD transformers, such galvanically isolated power supply designs can be implemented efficiently.
